In an effort to help the people of Japan following the tsunami on March 11, First Baptist Friendswood would like to make it easy for you to donate money to assist in the relief effort. While it is a common response to give of your surplus (clothes, blankets, etc.), money is the most helpful and appropriate way to support victims of this natural disaster.
There are many reputable Christian charities that are involved in the relief effort. As you evaluate your options, make sure you designate your donation directly to the relief work in Japan. Please consider giving to one of the organizations we have listed below.
World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. To learn more about World Vision's relief efforts in Japan, visit here. TEAM is a church-planting organization that has worked in Japan for some time. They are linking up with CRASH during the aftermath of the tsunami and earthquake to provide relief to the Japanese people. To donate, visit here.
Remember that it will take Japan a long time to recover from this disaster. Right now, it's valuable to give to charities providing immediate relief. But, with time, it's useful to give again to nonprofit organizations working to help Japan recover and rebuild.
Thanks for your compassion and generosity toward the people of Japan! What a wonderful way to tangibly share the love of Christ with others who are hurting and in need.
